Overview
HRCT scan have a high specificity in the diagnosis of pneumoconiosis. It is particularly helpful to detect pleural findings. [1][2]
CT scan
HRCT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of pneumoconiosis. Findings on CT scan suggestive of/diagnostic of pneumoconiosis include:
- Silicosis: [3] [4] [5]
- Small rounded opacities and hyalinized nodules in the upper lobes in silicosis with bilateral nodules.
- Emphysema is also seen.
- Ground glass opacities and interlobular thickening.
- Asbestosis: [6] [7] [8]
- Pleural effusions
- Pleural thickening
- Fibrosis
- Honeycombing
- Pleural plaques
