Primary Prevention
Over the long term, there are several important steps to help patients stop overbreathing:
- If anxiety or panic are triggers, seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist may help.
- Breathing exercises
- Practice of relaxation techniques regularly, such as progressive muscle relaxation or meditation
- Regular exercise
If these methods alone are not enough in preventing overbreathing, a beta blocker medication may be recommended.
