Overview
Unless the patient has advanced immunosuppression or is at high risk for mortality from HIV related complications, cardiaovascular surgical procedures like vale replacement and coronary artery bypass can be performed safely.
Surgery
Recurrent pericardial effusions are treated by subxiphoid pericardiotomy with placement of a pericardial window [1][2]. Alternatively, a balloon pericardiotomy can be performed to drain the pericardial fluid into pleural cavity [3].
Surgical resection of primary cardiac lymphoma is attempted when the intracardiac masses cause significant obstruction to blood flow across the valves.
