Overview
Abdominal ultrasound scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of insulinoma. Findings on ultrasound scan suggestive of insulinoma are homogeneously hypoechoic, rounded in shape, and with distinct margins.[1]
Ultrasound
- An endoscopic ultrasound has a sensitivity of 40-93% (depending on the location of the tumor) for detecting insulinomas.[2]
- Endoscopic ultrasound can be used in the preoperative assessment of patients with hypoglycemia and serum hyperinsulinemia.[3]
- Insulinoma appear homogeneously hypoechoic, rounded in shape, and with distinct margins.[1]
