Hepatoblastoma may be classified into two subtypes based on histology, pure fetal histology hepatoblastoma and small cell undifferentiated hepatoblastoma.

Hepatoblastoma may be classified into subtypes based on histology:<ref

• Major categories

• Epithelial

• Fetal, well differentiated
• Embryonal
• Macrotrabecular

• Mixed
• Small cell undifferentiated
• rhabdoid

• Minor categories

• Cholangioblastic (ductal)
• Keratinising squamous epithelium
• Intestinal glandular epithelium
• Teratoid (neuroid-melanocytic)
• Rhabdomyoblastic
• Chondroid
• Osteoid
