Primary Prevention
- Limit number of sexual partners
- Avoid sexual intercourse with prostitutes
- Use a barrier method of contraception
- Avoid traveling to areas with a high prevalence of chancroid, especially Africa, southeast Asia, and Latin America
- Prophylaxis with azithromycin
Secondary Prevention
Secondary prevention methods are similar to that of primary. The goal is to stop the spread of the disease so infected individuals should avoid sexual intercourse until symptoms reside.
