Necrotizing fasciitis must be differentiated from:
- Nonnecrotizing fasciitis (eosinophilic fasciitis, para neoplastic fasciitis, nodular fasciitis and proliferative fasciitis)
- Cellulitis
- Dermatomyositis
- Vaculitis (Lupus myofasciitis, Churg-strauss vasculitis and others)
- Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)
- Diabetic myonecrosis
- Compartment syndrome
- Lymphedema
- Phlegmasia cerulea dolens
- Myxedema
