Overview

Patients with hemothorax usually appear dullness to percussion, decreased breath sounds, tracheal deviation, and dyspnea that can be life threatening when hemodynamic instability and hypovolemic shock occurs.

Physical Examination

Vitals

Pulse Rate

• Tachycardia

Blood Pressure

• Hypotension
• Hypovolemic shock

Respiratory Rate

• Tachypnea and oxygen desaturation

Skin

• cold sweating

Lungs

• Dyspnea
• Trachea deviation
• Dullness to percussion
• Decreased breath sounds
• jugular venous distention
