- Learning disability: 60% of children with spina bifida were diagnosed with a learning disability.
- Patients with spina bifida have an increased rate of allergy to latex, ranging from mild to life-threatening. Approximately 68% of newborns with spina bifida have allergy to latex. Avoidance of use of latex-containing products such as examination gloves and condoms is critical in all patients with spina bifida since born.[10][11][12][13]
