Overview
Neuroimaging using CT scan may help determine if the tremor is the result of a structural defect or degeneration of the brain.
CT
Neuroimaging in evaluation of patients presenting with tremor is slowly increasing. Precise brain anatomy is required for procedures like stereotactic neurosurgery and deep brain stimulation for accurate electrode placement as there is room for only less than 2-mm tolerance. The routine use of single photon emission CT (SPECT) in neuroimaging helps distinguish essential and dystonic tremors from neurodegenerative Parkinson's disease due to observation of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system[1].
