Overview

  • The term hairy cell leukemia was first used to describe the malignancy by Dr. R. Schrek and Dr. W. J. Donnelly, in 1966.[1]

Historical Perspective

  • Leukemic reticuloendotheliosis was first described by Dr. O. Ewald, a German physician, in 1923.
  • The first description of hairy cell leukemia as an independent clinicopathological entity was first reported by Dr. Bertha A. Bouroncle, in 1958.
  • The term hairy cell leukemia was first used to describe the malignancy by Dr. R. Schrek and Dr. W. J. Donnelly, in 1966.[1]
