Overview
Abdominal ultrasound scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of insulinoma. Findings on ultrasound scan suggestive of insulinoma are homogeneously hypoechoic mass that is rounded in shape with distinct margins.[1]
Ultrasound
- An endoscopic ultrasound has a sensitivity of 40-93% (depending on the location of the tumor) for detecting insulinomas.[2]
- Endoscopic ultrasound can be used in the preoperative assessment of patients with hypoglycemia and serum hyperinsulinemia.[3]
- Insulinoma appear homogeneously hypoechoic, rounded in shape, and with distinct margins.[1]
