Fournier gangrene must be differentiated from other diseases that cause pain, swelling, erythema, discharge and raised temperature (fever) such as:[1][2]
- Scrotal abscess
- Herpes simplex
- Cellulitis
- Strangulated hernia
- Streptococcal necrotizing fasciitis
- Gonococcal balanitis and edema
- Vascular occlusion syndromes
- Allergic vasculitis
- Pyoderma gangrenosum
- Necrolytic migratory erythema
- Ecthyma gangrenosum
- Warfarin necrosis
- Polyarteritis nodosa
