Overview

Patients with hemothorax usually appear dullness to percussion, decreased breath sounds, tracheal deviation, and dyspnea that can be life-threatening when hemodynamic instability and hypovolemic shock occurs.

Physical Examination

Vitals

Pulse Rate

• Tachycardia

Blood Pressure

• Hypotension
• Hypovolemic shock

Respiratory Rate

• Tachypnea and oxygen desaturation

Skin

• cold sweating

Lungs

• Dyspnea
• Trachea deviation
• Dullness to percussion
• Decreased breath sounds
• jugular venous distention
