Overview
MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer.
MRI
- MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer. It may be suggestive of lymph node involvement as the first presentation of papillary thyroid cancer on MRI imaging.
- MRI findings associated with nodal involvement include:[1]
- Cystic components
- Calcification
- Hyperintensity on T1 due to proteinaceous or hemorrhagic content
- Papillary thyroid cancer may appear as a heterogeneous, enhancing mass on T1-weighted MRI images.[2]
- MRI imaging may also be helpful for assessment of thyroid cancer recurrence
