Overview
Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging may be used to assess the structure and the function of the atria in patients with atrial fibrillation. Further studies are needed to determine whether cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful for detecting atrial thrombi in persons with atrial fibrillation.
Cardiac MRI
- Recent studies suggest that Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful tool to detect atrial fibrosis.[1]
- Moreover this diagnostic tool can be use to detect thrombosis within the atrium. Based on a analysis study done on 582 patients from seven publications cine-cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has a pooled sensitivity and specificity of 91.00% and 93.00%, respectively.[2]
