Overview
Hypoproteinemia (or "Hypoproteinaemia") is a condition where there is an abnormally low level of protein in the blood.
Classification Scheme
A specific form of hypoproteinemia is hypoalbuminemia.
Causes
Common Causes
One common cause is due to excess protein in the urine (proteinuria), which can be a medical sign of nephrotic syndrome.
Results in tissue edema.
