Overview
In some patients with sickle cell anemia, MRI may be needed to assess for particular conditions, such as osteomyelitis.
MRI
MRI can show avascular necrosis of the leg. MRI is the best test for osteomyelitis and can also show marrow hyperplasia. Osteomyelitis in sickle cell disease is commonly due to Salmonella.
