Overview

A combination of laboratory tests can confirm the likely hood of a Colorado tick fever infection. An Immunofluoresence assay remains the gold standard in testing for infection. Other tests include complement fixation to the viral components that cause Colorado tick fever or Acute and convalescent serology. [1]

Laboratory findings

  • An Immunofluoresence assay is the gold standard testing method for Colorado tick fever.
  • Acute and convalescent serology are two other confirmatory lab tests.
  • Common laboratory abnormalities include a lower WBC count as well as a low platelet count.
  • Criteria to confirm diagnosis is roughly a four fold increase in antibody titer as well as a positive IgM antibody titer. [1]
