Overview
Ultrasound
- An ultrasound of the liver is also done in the workup of acute liver failure to evaluate ascites and other causes of hepatic failure. It can also assist in the evaluation of intrahepatic mass, abscess, cirrhosis, and malignancy.
- A Doppler ultrasonography can also evaluate the flow and patency of hepatic vessels (hepatic vein and hepatic artery) to rule out Budd-Chiari syndrome, hepatic congestion and portal hypertension.
