One additional bedside methods exists for detection of methemoglobin in the blood. It consist of placing couple of drops of blood on white filter paper, and check for change in the color of the blood when you expose the paper to oxygen. Simply deoxygenated hemoglobin will change its color from dark red to bright red, whereas methemoglobin will not. [1]
