Overview

Atherosclerosis was recognized during the 19th century.
In 1910 Windaus reported that atherosclerotic plaque contained cholestrol.
The association between [important risk factor/cause] and [disease name] was made in/during [year/event].
In 1939, Carl Muller was the first to discover the association between genetic and the development of atherosclerosis.^[1]

In 1959 Triparanol was the first cholestrol-lowering agent that introduced in US.But in 1960 because of serious side effects it was whithdrawn from the market.
A canadian pathologist Rudolf Altschul was discovered nicotinic acid in 1955 ,and in 1958 England synthesized Clofibrate.
Akiro Endo (japanes}in 1970 discovered Hmg-coAreductase inhibitors.^[1]
