Secondary prevention strategies following hemothorax include medical therapy and surgical therapy.

Secondary Prevention

Medical therapy:

• Fluid resuscitation and blood transfusion
• Prophylactic use of antibiotics
• Intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy (IPFT)

Surgical therapy:

• Intercostal chest drain (ICD)
• Video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS)
• Thoracotomy
