Overview

Magnetic resonance imaging can be used to predict the formation of pancreatic fistula by calculating the pancreatic remnant volume (PRV) and measuring the width of the pancreatic duct at the line of resection.

Pancreatic remnant volume following pancreaticoduodenectomy is associated with an increased risk of pancreatic fistula formation. Thus, magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography can be used to predict pancreatic fistula formation by calculating the pancreatic remnant volume before pancreatic resection.
