Causes
- Genetic factors are thought to play a role in the some cases of patent ductus arteriosus. It has been found to occur with increased frequency in some families, indicating some association with autosomal dominant inheritence (17)Siblings of patients with PDA have been found to have an increased frequency.[16]. The exact gene location for patent ductus arteriosus has not yet been determined.
- Congenital rubella (associated with PDA and pulmonary artery branch stenosis)
