Sodium superoxide is a yellow solid with the chemical formula NaO2.

NaO2 is formed when sodium is burned in oxygen at elevated temperature and pressure.

Na + O2 → NaO2

NaO2 is hydrolyzed by water to form sodium hydroxide plus oxygen.

NaO2 + H2O → NaOH + O2
