Overview
Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) is a form of leukemia where a majority of the blasts are megakaryoblastic.[1]
This rare subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) was first reported in 1931 by Von Boros and his colleagues.[2]
It is classified under M7 in the French-American-British classification.[3] Subsequently, it was introduced in the WHO 2008 classification of myeloid neoplasms and acute leukemia.[4]
In the first three years of life megakaryoblastic leukemia is the most common type of leukemia in patients with Down syndrome.[5]
