Overview
Conjunctival scrapings from the papillae may yield an inflammatory infiltrate. Tear analysis may show raised levels of inflammatory mediators like histamine and prostaglandins.
Other diagnostic studies
- Conjunctival scrapings to demonstrate inflammatory cells and edema within the papillae in GPC and VKC[1].
- Estimation of levels of inflammatory mediators in tears: The tears of VKC patients contain high levels of IgE and mast cell mediators like histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, and kinase[2].
