Overview

Head and neck MRI scan are diagnostic of esthesioneuroblastoma. On head and neck MRI, esthesioneuroblastoma is characterized by heterogenous intermediate signal on T1 and T2 weighted MRI and variable enhancement on T1 contrast with gadolinium.[1]

MRI

When intracranial extension is present, peritumoral cysts between the tumor and the overlying brain are often present. This may be helpful in distinguishing it from other entities. The margins of these cysts sometimes enhance.[1]

MRI component Features
T1
  • Heterogenous intermediate signal
T2
  • Heterogenous intermediate signal
T1 contrast + gadolinium
  • Variable enhancement (moderate to intense)
