Overview
No therapy is required for premature atrial contraction in asymptomatic individuals. If necessary, medical therapy should begin with a beta blocker.
Medical Therapy
- Removal or treatment of the underlying cause of PACs is generally sufficient.
- Beta-blockers may be helpful if the patient remains symptomatic.
- Other anti-arrhythmic drugs are used only when PACs precipitate or trigger other supraventricular arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter
