Overview
Ultrasonography may be helpful in the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis. Findings on an ultrasonography suggestive of psoriatic arthritis include synovitis, thickening of the joint capsule, joint effusions, and widening of joint space. Echocardiography is not used in the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis. But it is used to diagnose cardiac complications of psoriatic arthritis.
Ultrasonography and Echocardiography
- Ultrasonography may reveal following findings.[1]
- Joint effusions and widening of joint space
- Synovitis (articular and flexor tenosynovitis): Inflammation of the synovium.
- Dactylitis
- Thickening of the joint capsule
- Therapeutic uses of ultrasound in psoriatic arthritis may include:
- Guiding corticosteroid injection into the joint
- Fluid aspiration from the joint effusion
- Echocardiography is not used in the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis. But it is used to diagnose cardiac complications of psoriatic arthritis.
