Overview
It is important to take a history of the underlying risk factors for Ureaplasma colonization/infection. Nonspecific symptoms such as irritability, lethargy, convulsions and dyspnea can occur in neonatal infection.[1]
History and Symptoms
- A history of the underlying risk factors for Ureaplasma colonization/infection is important.[2][3][4][5] Nonspecific symptoms such as irritability, lethargy, convulsions and dyspnea can be seen in neonatal infection associated with Ureaplasma.[1]
- The site of the body affected by Ureaplasma infection determines the presenting symptom:
- Nongonococcal urethritis can present with dysuria and urethral discharge. It can also be asymptomatic.
- Ureaplasma pneumonia presents with symptoms similar to other bacterial pneumonia such as fever, labored breathing, etc.
