A schedule for follow-up exams and tests to detect polyps and cancerous lesions in other parts of GIT are important.
Secondary Prevention of small intestine cancer
- For people small intestine cancer, post surgical resection endoscopic, CT and MRI surveillance and frequent followup are necessary to pick other carcinomatous lesions in early phase.
- After treatment of primary lesion, surgical removal of polyps in other areas of intestine can prevent recurrence of cancer.
- Life style modification such as limiting tobacco and alcohol use, moderate healthy diet and resection of polyps can decrease the recurrence of small intestinal cancers.
- Regular followup to detect polyps is compulsory.
