Computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest is often used to diagnose lung cancer since it determine the location of tumor and any involvement of the lymph nodes. CT guided biopsy is used to sample tumor cells when the tumor is accessible. All patients with confirmed SCLC by histopathological findings on biopsy should undergo CT scan of the [[abdomen]] for staging purposes. Overview
Computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest is often used to diagnose lung cancer since it determine the location of tumor and any involvement of the lymph nodes. CT guided biopsy is used to sample tumor cells when the tumor is accessible. All patients with confirmed SCLC by histopathological findings on biopsy should undergo CT scan of the abdomen for staging purposes. Brain imaging is also mandatory for staging; however, brain MRI is preferred over brain CT scan. In addition, when limited stage is suspected, PET CT scan should be performed to located any metastases.
