Overview
- Lymphangitis is an ancient disease. The exact origins of the disease are not clearly known. Specific historical perspective for individual infections are discussed in detail separately.
Historical Perspective
- In 1829, Gabriel Andral, reported lesion of lymphangitis carcinomatosa in a patients with uterine cancer.[1]
- In 1897, J. Maitland, a British surgeon, performed removal of adult filariæ in cases of lymphangitis.[2]
- In 1912, McDonagh JE, described a case study of syphilitic elephantiasis of the scrotum involving lymphangitis.[3]
- In 1923, Sequeira JH, described a case study of tuberculous lymphangitis of skin.[4]
- In 1923, Hoffmann, described the case of sclerosing lymphangitis of penis.
