Causes
It is associated with a spectrum of coexisting anatomic abnormalities, such as diastasis of the levator ani, an abnormally deep cul-de-sac, a redundant sigmoid colon, a patulous anal sphincter, and loss or attenuation of the rectal sacral attachments
