Overview
The prevalence of Goodpasture syndrome worldwide affects an estimated 1 per million persons, with high prevalence in Caucasians. The peak incidence of the disease occurs between the ages of 20 and 30 and again at 60 and 70. [1]
Epidemiology
Prevalence
The prevalence of Goodpasture syndrome worldwide affects an estimated 1 per million persons.
Incidence
The incidence of Goodpasture syndrome is around 1 per 2 million persons per year.[2] The annual incidence of Goodpasture syndrome in Europe is estimated to range from 0.5 to 1 per 1 million persons.[3]
Demographics
The rate distribution of Goodpasture syndrome varies upon, age, sex, and race.
Age
Goodpasture syndrome occurs in two age peaks. The first occurring at an age of 20 and 30 and the second occurring at the age of 60 to 70.[1]
Gender
Males are at increased risk of developing Goodpasture syndrome in the second and third decade while females are at an increased risk of developing the syndrome in the sixth to seventh decade.[1]
Race
In European populations between half and one case presents per million people per year. It is rarer than this in non-European populations.
