Overview
There are no CT scan findings associated with amenorrhea. However, a CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of the diseases that can cause amenorrhea, such as Turner syndrome, androgen insensitivity syndrome and also anatomic genital defects.
CT Scan
- There are no CT scan findings associated with amenorrhea. However, a CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of the diseases that can cause amenorrhea, such as Turner syndrome, androgen insensitivity syndrome and also anatomic genital defects.
Turner syndrome
- The main finding on a CT angiogram suggestive of Turner syndrome is coarctation of aorta.[4]
- The CT angiogram shows the presence of decreased caliber of the aorta in the isthmus at the arrival of the remaining segment of the ductus arteriosus.
- Opacification of the ductus arteriosus is observed in its entire length from its origin from the aorta.
Androgen insensitivity syndrome
- Findings on a CT scan suggestive of androgen insensitivity syndrome include:[5]
- Bilateral cryptorchidism
- Juxta-testicular Mullerian duct cysts
Anatomic genital defects
- Findings on a CT scan suggestive of septate uterus include:[6]
- Convex fundal contour
- Acute angle of < 75% between uterine cavities
