Overview
The incidence rate of lung mass is approximately 58 per 100 000 individuals in the United States. The incidence of lung mass increases with age; the median age at diagnosis is between 25 to 70 years. The prevalence of malignancy among lung mass ranges between 200 - 50,000 per 100,000 cases worldwide (or from 0.2% to 50%). Males are more commonly affected with lung mass than females. The male to female ratio is approximately 2 to 1. There is no racial predilection for lung mass.

Incidence
- The incidence rate of malignant lung mass is approximately 58 per 100,000 individuals in the United States.
- The incidence rate of lung mass increases with age, tobacco use, and history of prior cancer.
Prevalence
- The prevalence of malignancy among lung mass ranges between 200 - 50,000 per 100,000 cases worldwide (or from 0.2% to 50%).
- In 2014, there were an estimated 527, 228 people living with lung cancer in the United States.
Case Mortality Rate
- Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death worldwide.[3]
- From 2010 - 2014, the number of deaths from lung cancer was 44.7 per 100,000 men and women per year.[4]
- It has been estimated that lung cancer accounts for approximately 1.5 million deaths annually.
- Amongst men, lung is the most common site for cancer while it is the third most common site in females.
Age
- The median age at diagnosis for malignant lung mass is between 55 to 70 years.
- The median age at diagnosis for benign lung mass is between 20 to 50 years.
Race
- There is no racial predilection to lung mass.
Gender
- Males are more commonly affected with lung mass than females. The male to female ratio is approximately 2 to 1.[5]
