There is no medical treatment for Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. Depending on the associated cancer, radiotherapy or chemotherapy may be considered.
Patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome are treated with intra-operative enteroscopy (IOE) and double balloon enteroscopy (DBE).[1]
- Intra-operative enteroscopy
- Laparotomy (laparoscopy) with endoscopy is done.
- Best modality for diagnostic and therapeutic procedure of the small bowel.
- Double balloon enteroscopy
- Allows examination and treatment of the jejenum and ileum.
- Chemoprophylaxis
- Proven efficacy of rapamycin for Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in a mouse model.
