Overview
Criteria for CT scan diagnosis of Alzheimer disease includes diffuse cerebral atrophy with enlargement of the cortical sulci and increased size of the ventricles.
CT scan
- CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Findings on CT scan suggestive of Alzheimer's disease include diffuse cerebral atrophy with enlargement of the cortical sulci and increased size of the ventricles.
- Cerebral atrophy is observed mostly in patients with Alzheimer disease when compared to patients growing without Alzheimer disease.
- Atrophy progression changes may be useful in diagnosing Alzheimer disease:
- Longitudinal changes in brain size related with longitudinal progression of cognitive loss
- Enlargement of the third and lateral ventricles occuurs to a greater extent in patients with Alzheimer disease.
