Complications

Chondrosarcoma may return and may need treatment with surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

Prognosis

• Generally, chondrosarcoma carries a good prognosis.
• Chondrosarcoma is associated with a 5 year survival rate of 75%.
• Depending upon the subtype, prognosis vary substantially:
  • Chondrosarcoma NOS: 5 year survival of approximately 70%.
  • Myxoid chondrosarcoma: 5 year survival of approximately 70%.
  • Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma: 5 year survival of approximately 50%.
  • Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma: 5 year survival of 10%.
