Overview

Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for dermoid cysts.[1]

Surgery

  • Complete surgical excision by enucleation is the mainstay of treatment for dermoid cysts.[1]
  • Enucleation via intraoral or extraoral approach depending upon the size and location of the cyst is performed for dermoid cysts in the floor of the mouth.[2]
    • Intraoral approach is preferred for small sublingual cysts, whereas extraoral approach is preferred for submental and large sublingual cysts.
  • Incomplete excision may result in recurrence.[3]
