- Pilarcysts (trichilemmal cyst)
- Acquired,intradermal
- Scalp is the most common site
- Cutaneous ectopic brain
- Steatocystoma multiplex
- Cystic hygroma
- Metastases (cutaneous or lymph nodal lesions)
- Pilonidal cyst
- Encephalocele (when dermoid cysts appear on the medial aspect of the orbit)
- Infectious process
- Ranula
- Lymphatic malformation
- Heterotopic gastrointestinal cyst
- Duplication foregut cyst
- Vascular leiomyoma of the extracranial scalp
